On May 1, 2025, Somali Civil Society Organizations convened to address the pressing political disputes, security concerns, and electoral challenges facing the nation. The comunique highlights the damaging effects of ongoing conflicts between the Federal Government and some Federal Member States on national unity, security, and public trust. It warns that political divisions risk inviting foreign interference from countries with their own interests, threatening Somalia’s state-building process.
The civil society calls for an inclusive and participatory dialogue process, as announced by the President, to overcome political deadlock and restore stability. It stresses the urgent need for transparent, free, and fair elections that genuinely reflect the will of the Somali people, rejecting any return to the flawed 2021–2022 electoral system. Furthermore, the communique urges federal and state authorities to collaborate closely on public security and involve communities in peacebuilding efforts. To strengthen cooperation, civil society commits to establishing a coordination office to facilitate better collaboration between the Federal Government and Federal Member States.
