In June 2025, SONSA actively contributed to Somalia’s political dialogue and nation-building efforts by participating in the National Dialogue Forum in Mogadishu, officially opened by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The forum brought together government leaders, opposition figures, civil society, and other stakeholders to discuss key priorities such as unity, security, constitutional finalization, and inclusive elections. SONSA also joined the official launch of Somalia’s Centennial Vision 2060, led by the National Economic Council and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, presenting a unifying roadmap for a peaceful and prosperous Somalia as the country prepares to mark its 100th year of independence.
SONSA continued to champion civic participation and inclusive governance by organizing the launch of CSOs Working Groups and a Multi-Stakeholder Event with Parliamentary Committees in Mogadishu, as part of the EU-funded Gole-Kaab Project. The event brought together MPs, parliamentary committees, and civil society representatives to improve citizen engagement in parliamentary processes and promote transparency and accountability. Meanwhile, in Garowe, SONSA joined partners PUNSAA and CDSD in a two-day Reflection and Learning Meeting to strengthen collaboration, evaluate progress, and develop strategies to enhance civil society’s role in both federal and regional governance.
Throughout June, SONSA also advanced digital rights by hosting an advanced workshop on Digital Rights and Security in Mogadishu, equipping civil society organizations to address cybersecurity threats and support safe, open online spaces. Internationally, SONSA Executive Director Mohamed Aded Ali represented Somali civil society at the 20th United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF2025) in Norway, engaging global partners to advocate for inclusive, rights-based internet governance. SONSA’s ongoing work reflects its commitment to fostering inclusive dialogue, accountable governance, and civic empowerment across Somalia.
