The Gole-Kaab project, a partnership between SONSA and NIMD funded by the EU, is a crucial initiative to bolster democracy in Somalia. It aims to empower citizens by increasing their awareness of and participation in parliamentary proceedings. This involves providing access to observe parliamentary sessions, ultimately enhancing transparency, accountability, and the responsiveness of the government to the needs and voices of its people. The project also focuses on fostering closer collaboration between Parliament and civil society organizations, ensuring that the legislative process is inclusive and reflects the perspectives of all stakeholders. Ultimately, Gole-Kaab seeks to create a more informed and engaged citizenry, contributing to a more accountable and responsive government in Somalia.

The Gole-Kaab project, a collaboration between SONSA and NIMD, aims to increase citizen awareness and participation in Somalia's parliamentary proceedings. The project seeks to advance democratization by providing access to oversee parliament sessions, enhancing transparency and accountability.
"January 2025: A Month of Progress and Collaboration for Somalia’s Future"
January 2025 was a transformative month for Sonsa (Somalia Non-State Actors), marked by impactful engagements and initiatives aimed at fostering national unity, progress, and development. Sonsa’s Chairperson, Osman Moallim, met with His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to discuss critical issues such as political uncertainty, security challenges, and the upcoming one-person, one-vote elections. This dialogue emphasized the importance of inclusive governance and civil society’s role in safeguarding democratic progress.
In collaboration with Mogadishu University, Sonsa signed a Memorandum of Understanding to empower Somali youth through internships and community engagement projects. Sonsa also played an active role in Somalia’s Annual Judicial Conference, advocating for equitable justice reforms to modernize the judiciary. Additionally, civil society leaders joined government representatives in celebrating academic achievements at Mogadishu University, highlighting the transformative power of education in shaping Somalia’s future.
The month concluded with key milestones like the Somali Cabinet’s approval of the E-Government Strategy (2025-2029) and the launch of the Internal Security Strategic Plan. Both initiatives underscore the growing partnership between civil society and government in promoting digital inclusion, enhancing security, and advancing national development. Sonsa remains committed to driving meaningful change through collaboration and community-focused initiatives that pave the way for a stable and prosperous Somalia.
