Somali Civil Society SONSA Condemns Public Land Sales and Irregular Voter Registration of the Expected Banadir Local Council Elections.

The Somali Civil Society (SONSA) has voiced strong concern over the Federal Government’s sale of public lands previously used for essential social services, warning that these actions have displaced vulnerable families and disrupted children’s education. SONSA also criticized the lack of transparent planning for residents affected by the land sales, stating that such measures undermines the public trust and hinder state-building. Additionally, SONSA expressed alarm at the non-transparent and compulsory voter registration underway in Mogadishu’s Banadir region ahead of local elections in Banadir Region, urging authorities to ensure fair civic participation, proper public awareness, and protection of residents’ electoral rights.
